Critical Issues – Budget and Finance

On January 10th, Governor Brown released his proposed budget for 2011-12. For K-12 education, the proposal, is primarily dependent on the voter approval in a special election of continued temporary revenues. In addition, the proposal calls for another deferral- delaying the payment of $2 billion from 2011-12 and 2012-13.

Budget Discussion (December 15, 2010)
Governor Schwarzenegger has called a Special Session on the budget, but it is largely being ignored. The focus instead is on the Governor-elect Brown. He is holding budget discussions around the state to create a common understanding of the problem. The next key date is the release of the Governor’s proposed budget on January 10, 2011.
